Gem Care
AMBER – Clean only in warm soapy water, rinse and pat dry. Do not soak, brush or ultrasonic.
AMETHYST – See Quartz.
AQUAMARINE – Clean gentle with warm soapy water, cloth or soft toothbrush, rinse and dry. (Ultrasonic risky with included stones)
AZURITE – Clean only with cool soapy water.
CITRINE – See Quartz
CORAL – Clean gently with a soft, clean damp cloth (no soap). Do not use steamer, ultrasonic, soap or brush. Avoid exposure to acids, chemicals, perfumes and cosmetics.
CUBIC ZIRCONIA – Clean with steamer, ultrasonic, warm soapy water, brush or alcohol.
DIAMOND – Avoid heat and chemicals on fracture filled diamonds. Clean with steamer, ultrasonic, soap or alcohol (vodka), ammonia-based cleaners, or warm soapy water and a brush. Diamonds attract grease so clean regularly!
EMERALD – Clean only with warm water (no soap) and a soft brush. Do not use ultrasonic, steamer, alcohol or solvents. Avoid impact!
GARNET – Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush, rinse and dry. Do not use steamer. Ultrasonic is 0k.
HEMATITE – Clean with ultrasonic, steamer, alcohol (vodka), and most chemical cleaners.
IOLITE – Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Do not use cleaners, steamer, ultrasonic or acids.
IVORY – Clean with a damp cloth and towel dry. Do not soak, ultrasonic, steam or use cleaners. Avoid cosmetics, hairspray and perfume.
JADE – Clean with ultrasonic, steamer or warm soapy water.
LAPIS LAZULI – Clean with warm soapy water and air dry. Do not brush, soak, ultrasonic or steam.
OPAL – Clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak, steam, ultrasonic, or use chemicals.
MALACHITE – Clean in cool water with a small amount of soft soap. Do not soak, use chemicals, ultrasonic or steamer.
MOONSTONE – Clean only with warm soapy water and a soft brush.
PEARL – Clean after every wearing with a soft or damp cloth. Do not use ultrasonic, steamer or use chemicals. Avoid cosmetics, perfume, alcohol, hairspray, even acidic perspiration.
PERIDOT – Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Rinse and dry with a clean cloth. Do not ultrasonic or steam. Avoid sudden temperature change and acids.
QUARTZ which includes Agate, Amethyst, Chalcedony, Chrysoprase, Citrine, Jasper, Onyx, Rose Quartz, Tiger eye etc. – Clean in warm soapy water, rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Do not steam, ultrasonic usually safe.
RUBY – Almost any cleaning technique is acceptable.
SAPPHIRE – Almost any cleaning technique is acceptable.
SPINEL – Clean with warm soapy water, alcohol, ammonia and jewellery cleaners. Ultrasonic and steamer usually safe.
TANZANITE – Clean only in warm soapy water and dry with a soft cloth. Do not ultrasonic, steam, use acids or brushes.
TOPAZ – Clean with warm soapy water, rinse and air dry. Do not ultrasonic or steam. Perfect cleavage — so handle with care.
TOURMALINE – Clean with warm soapy and a soft brush or alcohol. Do not use ultrasonic or steamer.
